How Love London started
Over the last few years churches from different denominations across the country have been working together to bring the love of God to their local communities. Love Southend, Love Cornwall, Love Oxford and Love Bristol paved the way for Love Croydon, the forerunner of Love London.
In 2003, Evangelist, Steve Mullins, was the co-ordinator of outreach event in Croydon ‘On The Move’ which took the Gospel outside the walls of the church every May. It was proving increasingly difficult to get people through the church doors, so local churches in the area created a carnival atmosphere with a worship band and free BBQ on the street. The churches of Croydon met with thousands of locals over the next four years resulting in conversation, prayer and conversions!
In June 2007, Steve, also founder of The Dry Bones Trust began talking to local church leaders about ‘Love Croydon’ which envisaged churches working together in terms of evangelistic outreach, social action projects and large scale events. Other Christian organisations and agencies would also be brought in to resource the churches. Ultimately, Love Croydon would creatively advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ in practical and accessible ways relevant to Croydon.
Later that summer, Steve lay ill in a hospital bed after returning from a mission trip to Uganda. The Lord spoke to him. If this was going to work in Croydon, why couldn’t it be replicated across every London borough? Hence, the vision of Love London was born. In 2008, Premier Christian Radio began leading the project to help make it a reality.
